Desert Fallout (Don Pendleton's Mack Bolan)
Desert Fallout (Don Pendleton's Mack Bolan)
The discovery of deadly biological poisons and mass slaughter at an archaeological dig in Egypt puts a previously hidden enemy in Bolan’s crosshairs. It begins hot, fast and bloody as Bolan unearths a mysterious pretender to the Egyptian throne who is harnessing the bloodlust of terrorist groups to launch a Middle East endgame. Playing all factions— Muslim, Jewish and Christian—against the others, the self-proclaimed Eternal Pharaoh has the ambition and the army to unleash a storm of violence in the region that promises all-out war. This dark enemy and his predecessors have sown the seeds of their magnificent coup for generations, but never anticipated an enemy so righteous in his fury—a relentless, implacable hunter called the Executioner.

Wednesday, March 02, 2011This is a little added piece I didn’t get to put in and I am placing it in the order above the beginning of the story, because this is what happened first before I left the prison. “The Bus Ticket”, I know these people in the Sioux Falls Penitentiary in South Dakota, were a little too zealous of my departure and Trudy, from the Parole Department with her wide open fish pond pupils called me down for my Release Plan to tell me about my bus ticket. From Ed Ligtenberg (605) 367-5040, Acct #270558, Jefferson Bus Lines, FAX #367-9828 [by the way the prefix 367 is Department of Correction Centrex Prefix, exclusively, a mini computer for the exchange] to Denver Colorado – To leave on November 8, 2010, from Sioux Falls at 2:30pm and arrive at Denver at 6:55am, Cost $100.00 ATTN: Traci Fredrickson, Parole Services Approved Bonnie Larson. Bruce Berke, (605) 367-5168 Office phone, (605) 367-5115 Fax. I sold my MPV Mazda 1989 Van, back to a used car dealer called, Auto Land as a trade in for my 2000 Ford Taurus SE, my brother-in-law Charles Giba, wanted to buy it. So he came up to Sioux Falls from Denver with his son Jimmy, on a Trailway’s Bus that arrives at 7th Street and Main Avenue at 11:00pm and departs, returning to Denver at 11:30pm. The trip takes four and a half hours to Omaha Nebraska and there is a lay over till 10:00am and that arrives in Denver MST 12:00pm a total of fifteen and a half hours. This is the only bus I was told that goes to Denver. This one they told me about leaves at 1400 West Russell Avenue, at 2:30pm and arrives at Denver at 6:55am. How is that possible? Well I’m told it is a local South Dakota Bus Line. If this Bus travels in the State of South Dakota the highest possible speed limit is 65mph. Even at 65mph times 16 hours minus five minutes one thousand and forty miles. This does not account for local stops or average speed, impossible! 719.22 miles by interstate this is going down US Highway 18 intrastate. I was told it would let me of at Nebraska, Scott’s Bluff, maybe, how is it going to get to Denver; there is no Jefferson Bus Lines on the Web. The inmates told me they would drop me off and I’d have to make connections at Grand Island Nebraska at 8:00pm. Scream by head off, get arrested and go to prison in Nebraska, Barack Obama and Stuffers Hotel Covenanted on me to go back to prison the same day. If there was a bus, why didn’t Chuck know about it, he was a veteran Bus Driver for RTD in Denver twenty six years? Total set up, I let them know, but they didn’t like me telling everyone.

This is the start of my new journal. Today is Veterans Day, November 12, 2010 and I have been out of prison now for three days. I called my sister Helga, last night and she will let me stop by and get my stuff I sent her. I’ve been watching porno, and I have an angry woman in my head that seems to object very strongly. I am going back to bed to get a few more winks. Well calling Helga netted a lot of trouble, because after that my laptop wouldn’t go on line. I couldn’t get the World Wide Web at the motel that night, but I thought It might have been something else wrong with the connection, because of the service provider, but when I checked the lobby PC’s, the line was working, so I told the desk, and the lady said that the engineer would have to come up to the room to check it out up there, and that I should go back upstairs and wait for him. I really felt uneasy about this, because of him having to come to my room to check it out. Well he said the trouble was in my laptop, and that he saw cigarette ashes and that I couldn’t smoke in the room, that there was a $250.00 charge to recondition the room for smoking in it. The twenty I had left as a tip for the maid was taken, and so was the thank you note for cleaning the room, so I told the desk clerk. I used the wireless connection to get the web, but the cable wouldn’t work, still I couldn’t get the web, the trouble shooter said it was a broken cable. It didn’t make sense to me, because it worked fine before, so what could have happened? Did this guy screw it up, because the lady in my head didn’t like porno, was it Helga that got this man to mess up my computer, if he did. Why did it happen after I watched a couple of movies and called Helga? She rose up in conscience to where I could hear her, and we talked to each other. Well I got booked on a plane to Denver using the wireless connection. I ate at the Mall and the cops came and sat down near where I was eating. I checked on another wireless service and went back to my room and tried to change my address with the post office at the motel and prison, but I couldn’t change either one because they were businesses. I checked out at 2:00pm and the lady only charges me an extra half day. There was no charge for smoking, I didn’t see any ashes? The motel shuttle brought me to the airport; it cost an extra $160 dollars for my extra luggage.

I arrived in Denver and got a shuttle to H

Richard Burton

Richard Burton (1925 – 1984) was one of the great British actors of the post World War II period. Although never trained as an actor, he became famous on stage in most of the plays by William Shakespeare. Blessed with a thrillingly theatrical voice, Burton also became, at one time, the highest-paid film actor in the world. He was nominated seven times for an Academy Award, six of which were for Best Actor in a Leading Role (without ever winning), and was a recipient of BAFTA, Golden Globe and Tony Awards for Best Actor. His adulterous romance with Elizabeth Taylor became an international scandal and their two tempestuous marriages were covered in detail by the paparazzi.

Richard Burton was born Richard Walter Jenkins in the village of Pontrhydyfen, Wales in 1925. He was the twelfth of thirteen children. His father, Richard Walter Jenkins, was a short, robust coal miner, a ‘twelve-pints-a-day man’. Burton was less than two years old in 1927 when his mother, Edith Maude (nee Thomas), died at the age of 43 after giving birth to her 13th child. His sister Cecilia ‘Cis’ and her husband Elfed took him into their Presbyterian mining family in nearby Port Talbot (an English-speaking steel town). He grew up speaking Cymraeg (Welsh) as well as English. His 19 year older brother Ifor became his de facto father figure, and in later years, his assistant and boon companion. Burton showed a talent for English and Welsh literature at grammar school, and demonstrated an excellent memory, though his consuming interest was sports – rugby. He earned pocket money by running messages, hauling horse manure, and delivering newspapers. He started to smoke at the age of eight and drink regularly at twelve. He believed that the way out of an impoverished Welsh living was to read, and he was always reading books. Inspired by his schoolmaster, Philip H. Burton, he excelled in school productions, his first being The Apple Cart. The young man had spoken no English until the age of ten. Burton taught him to speak English without a Welsh accent, to read the classics, and to hold a knife and fork. Richard left school at sixteen for full-time work. He worked for the local wartime Co-operative committee, handing out supplies in exchange for coupons, but then considered other professions for his future, including boxing, religion and singing. When Jenkins joined the Port Talbot Squadron of the Air Training Corps as a cadet, he re-encountered Philip Burton, his former teacher, who was the commander. Burton rigorously schooled him in both literature and acting, even sending him to Welsh mountaintops to work on voice projection. After receiving his school certificate, Richard was accepted to Exeter College at Oxford for a special term of study. In order to gain admittance as an undergraduate, Philip Burton was required to adopt the young man; after discovering that it was legally impossible to do so, he made Richard his ward, and changed his surname to Burton. Before leaving for Exeter, Burton made his professional acting debut in the play The Druid’s Rest, in 1944. The show was successful enough to move to London, where he received his first positive review in the New Statesman magazine. Those words would solidify Burton’s resolve to become an actor. While at Exeter, he appeared in his first significant Shakespearean role – Angelo in Measure for Measure – before an audience that included such important theatrical figures as John Gielgud and Terence Rattigan. Subsequently he served in the RAF (1944 – 1947) as a navigator. In 1947, after his discharge, Burton went to London to seek his fortune. He immediately signed up with a theatrical agency to make himself available for casting calls. His first film was The Last Days of Dolwyn (1949, Russell Lloyd, Emlyn Williams), set in a Welsh village about to be drowned to provide a reservoir. He met his future wife, the young actress Sybil Williams, on the set, and they married in 1949. They had two daughters, and divorced in 1963 after Burton’s widely reported affair with Elizabeth Taylor. In the years of his marriage to Sybil, Burton appeared in the West End in a highly successful production of The Lady’s Not for Burning, alongside Sir John Gielgud and Claire Bloom, in both the London and New York productions.

Richard Burton had small parts in various low-key British films: Now Barabbas (1950, Gordon Parry) starring Richard Greene, Waterfront (1950, Michael Anderson) with Robert Newton, The Woman with No Name (1951, Ladislao Vajda) featuring Phyllis Calvert, and a bigger part as a smuggler in the B-film Green Grow the Rushes (1951, Derek N. Twist). He displayed a watchful brooding intensity in these films. In the 1951 season at Stratford, he gave a critically acclaimed performance and achieved stardom as Prince Hal in Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Part 1 opposite Anthony Quayle’s Falstaff.
